A reason to celebrate?

Of course I was OBSESSED weren't you? I had all their cassette tapes, trading cards, towels, posters, you name it! They came in concert and the best day of my life was when my Mom surprised me with tickets! She even came to the concert too and video taped the WHOLE thing!! 

I guess they're going to attempt a come back. They make their big debut on the Today show May 16th. I'm thinking I just might be able to sell that concert tape for something after all! What do you think?

Welcome to Albuquerque

WHAT? New Mexico? HUH? I've seen it on the map, but it actually IS a place? I know, that's exactly what I was thinking before I visited this state last weekend too and I'm here to tell you that it really does exist. It really is a normal place...sort of.

Why did we go? Well, there is a company located down there that Gary has been talking with over the past little bit and they wanted us to come visit them. Before I get into telling you about our trip, I have to say that I was actually quite pleasantly surprised at Albuquerque. It's much bigger than Provo and has just about everything we have, actually it has more. The only thing it would be missing is Bajio's and Deseret Book but I'm sure I could deal with that. The weekend started on Thursday afternoon. Gary, the owner of this company picked us up from the air port and the three of us met his wife for dinner (I know, nice name eh?). They are such a nice couple and we had a great time getting to know them. After dinner, Gary dropped us off at our hotel. Needless to say, we were quite impressed already!

Early the next morning, Grace picked us up and took us down to the office to introduce us to everyone, show us around, and an interview with a couple guys for Gary Fears. After that, we all went to lunch at this SWEET Mexican restaurant. I think the place was called El Pinos. Bill Clinton and George Bush both go there whenever they are in town (which is HOW often?) AND when ESPN does its 50 in 50 state tour thingy, that's where they broadcast from when they're in New Mexico. BIG Claim to fame...The food was really yummy though. After lunch, Grace took us around town and showed us a few touristy spots. One was Old Historic something or other. This church behind us was basically the first thing in Albuquerque. It's 300 years old and if you'll look behind us...NO, those are not tourists. That is a funeral coming out...a little bit awkward.

Across the street from the church is this park that has two cannons. After reading the sign, we realized that they aren't just two cannons. These are cannons that were buried underground to be hidden during the civil war and later discovered. We thought that was kind of cool.

We then drove all the way up the back of a mountain and got to see the whole view of Albuquerque. It was really really cold up there. The sights were beautiful though.



Yup, one more thing worth noting here is that there is this lingo down there. HONESTLY! New Mexico is FAMOUS for their chilies. "Red or Green" is all they have to say and EVERYONE knows they are talking about chili sauce. And believe me, they put them in EVERYTHING. Scrambled Eggs, Pancakes, Flan, cheesecake, etc. you think it up, and they've done it. It's quite hilarious...but most of it was surprisingly quite delish.

So, that was our visit to Albuquerque. It was fun, we liked it...We'll be sure to keep you all posted on the job search.

Where have I been?

Last Monday night Gary and I were laying in bed and I was reviewing with him the list of last minute things I needed to add to my already packed suit case in the morning. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't listening to anything I was saying (which was because it was more just to help make sure I wasn't forgetting anything, than it was for him) until I said the word "Camera" - He perks up and says "Tara, what am I going to use? I need a camera too. I guess I'll just have to go buy another camera tomorrow." - HA!! Secretly I knew this was going to be an issue which is why I actually said this out loud! I'm such a good wife!

Gary and I both went to Georgia last week. He flew out a day later than I did and actually stayed somewhere else. I know, ideal trip eh? NOT! Gary was going for a school event and I just went because there was no way I was going to let him go to Atlanta without me! I stayed with my Aunt and Uncle and had my own kind of fun while Gary was staying with a big group of University students and competing in some landscape competitions. Needless to say, Gary won and took the camera...so I have NO pictures to show! But Gary's got lots, and I'm going to have him tell you ALL about it!

I was able to see Gary on Sunday, we went and picked him up and had him over for dinner and then also on Tuesday before I flew out, Gary and I borrowed a car and went to see his Brother, Scott and his wife, Tracey who also live in Georgia. I DO have a picture of that because the keeper of the camera happened to be with me!

My trip was filled with shopping, eating at fine dining establishments like Moes, Steak 'n Shake, Cheesecake Factory (where there isn't a five hour wait like Utah), Village Tavern (where they managed to spill balsamic vinaigrette on my WHITE hoodie), five guys, etc. Most of my time was spent just chatting away with my cousin, Lisa...and for some reason, we can talk FOREVER...so that never got old!

Thanks Mark, G-Lo, Nathan, Lisa, Matt, and Ryan for letting me come crash your life for a week! I had fun and can't wait to come back! (Maybe it will be warmer and a little more DRY next time I come!)

One thing I really like about the East is the birds. I did manage to get up and go for a run every morning and just LOVED it! There were a couple really nice trails that I ran on that were totally surrounded by trees so there were birds flying all over the place. My favorite is the Cardinal. It is absolutely beautiful and sings a very pretty little song. Here's a picture I found online of them because I didn't have my camera to even attempt at taking one, aren't they pretty? Now, imagine them in the middle of a Canadian winter...perched high up in a white covered tree. Now you know why I love them!
And now, in a matter of a few hours, Gary and I will be on the plane once more. We are flying to New Mexico for a couple of days...since we'll be together this time, I BETTER have some pictures when I get back!
