Ya'll missed out...

...and so did we! It was the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta recently and I was SO excited! Day one I got up bright and early (sort of) and drove all over NE Albuquerque looking for the BEST place to see all the balloons while my husband played racquetball with some friends. This event just doesn't even compare to Freedom Days where I grew up...sorry Utah. Everywhere I drove, there were HUNDREDS of people parked on the side of the roads just standing out watching the mass ascension. It was SO neat!
Obviously, there were already quite a few balloons up by the time I got out there but they lined the whole horizon of the sky as far as I could see! It was SO cool! (These pictures really don't do any justice to it). The plan was to attend the Glowdeo on the Thursday (a few days before the end of the 2008 Balloon Fiesta). Believe me, I was SO excited. The Glowdeo (from my understanding) is an ascension of all the special shaped balloons-at NIGHT so they glow and light up the sky. COOOOL! Well, as my luck would have it, bad weather blew in about a half hour before we were going to leave so it was cancelled...and didn't leave for the rest of the festival so I didn't get to go to ANYTHING. It was really neat though, to go running every morning and see hundreds of balloons in the air!
This picture (below) is of the balloons taking off. There are so many balloons that even though they have a HUGE HUGE place where they take of from, they still have to do it in shifts. You can see them blowing up behind those buildings. I thought it was kind of cool.

Start making plans to come visit next year during Balloon Fiesta October 3-11, 2009!!! We can BOTH experience it for the first time, together! :)

How come sometimes I can click on your pictures and enlarge them and sometimes I can't? This time I couldn't... At least I can tell one thing from the pictures. Albuquerque is BROWN. And blue, if you count the sky. :)

Tara, I grew up going to the Provo Balloon Fest and I've always thought it would be cool to go the the Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico. I have heard that it is much more impressive than Provo's. Isn't it the biggest balloon event in the country?

That is so cool! I'm so sorry it was cancelled. One of these days we're going to have to come and visit for it.
